The Fix (2024) Written Review

The Fix

Cast: Grace Van Dien, Daniel Sharman, Keenan Arrison

Writer and Director: Kelsey Egan

*** and a ½ *s out of 5

In the not too distant future.  The air quality is dropping and so is the majority of the planet.  Renegade scientists are developing new types of drugs that will hopefully save humanity.  Not unless the pharmaceuticals companies can exploit it and make a little profit first.

Ella(Grace Van Dien) is a spokesmodel for one such company when she unknowingly drinks a new experimental serum.  Now she has the ability to climb walls and is a lot stronger than ever.    After she gets in contact with Solomon (Keenan Arrsion)the creator of said drug.  They are soon captured by Eric (Daniel Sharman) the head CEO of Aethera.  He wants Solomon to give him his formula and to extract all he can from Ella so that he can create a drug to mass market to those who are willing to pay big money for it.

The Fix is a very solid action sci-fi feature from director Kelsey Egan.  With elements of Hanna meets The Fly.  This was quite an engaging story but one element could have improved it more.   Instead of having Ella be this successful model who feels ashamed of promoting these companies.  It would have worked better if she was a junkie who took advantage of her friends and all those around her to be dependent on her drug use. That way when she starts changing physically,  She can have a different opinion on herself and others. It seems clear that this company is taken advantage of the people they say they are trying to help. Only to make them dependent on the drug to use.  To have a character be dependent on the system who later fights the system would be a really cool character arch.  This is only  a small nitpick on otherwise a very solid movie.
