***** out of Five Stars
When Elizabeth Rogen (Caroline Renee) first met Edward Jackson Hamner jr (William Champion). She though he was a little off. Showing up to the library in mismatched socks and offering her ice cream was not anything she was expecting, but it was a nice gesture. What really drew her to him was that he seemed to know the struggles she was facing in a certain class and was able to easily solve them. After a bad tragedy where Elizabeth lost her boyfriend in a car accident. Edward magically shows up to help her with her grief and the two eventually start dating. Everything about him seems sweet and romantic to her, The only person who has distrust about Edward is Elizabeth's roommate Alice McGee (Giovanna Drummond). Is she just jealous or is there something hidden about this guy we don't know.
What really strikes viewers right away when watching this short film is the attention to detail. Director Julia Marchese and cinematographer Alex Simon made this look like a movie that was made in 1976. Even though it was shot digitally. It has the appearance of being shot on film. The costume designs by Toni Elliot and production designs by Jynnifer Maccomber make this look really authentic for that time period. The only other time I saw the 70's look that authentic was in Sofia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides.
The cast in I Know What You Need all are absolutely fantastic. There is a scene near the end between William Champion and Caroline Renee that almost floored me. Same thing when there is a heated exchange with Giovanni Drummond's character was extremely good. Hell even the role of Elizabeth's boyfriend(who has no speaking part) was briliantly played by Colin Fin.
Based on a short story by Stephen King from his Night Shift Collection(Which I have not read). This was a very well made feature and I very much will want to check out projects by Julia Marchese.
