Damien Self, a director of erotic features is struggling to find casting for his latest adult feature. Many of the performers that used to work with him are creating their own content on Only Fans and don’t need the work of a professional photographer any more. His latest model Mia (Stella Paris) has walked off set and his producer/friend James Steel (Kieran Chalker) has threatented to cut funding for future projects. Damien needs to create a project that will earn some serious cash.
After seeing an ad for A.I. sex dolls. Damien gets a wild idea to order them and use them as the main performers in his films. Soon Damien’s biggest challenge isn’t keeping his films under budget and on time. It will be his own self control while being around three beautiful looking women who will obey his every command. Things start to get crazy when one of the dolls starts to become more aware of how truly powerful she can be.
If you are looking for a movie that gives greater insight into the world of artificial intelligence and the moral and ethical elements that go with having sex with a real doll. I’m sorry but this is not that kind of movie. Psycho Sex Dolls is a throwback to the kind of comedy sexploitation films I could see on USA Up All Night. Just with the nudity fully intact. I only wish that there was a bit more of the dolls going psycho than what I got.
Emma Cole, Jamie Leigh Jones and Stella Paris are extremely beautiful to look at as the rolls of the dolls. Mia (Stella Parris)is the only doll that gets the most screen time and I was curious why the others don’t as much. They are featured a lot but I wanted more from thier characters. There could have been some really fun dynamics to explore in that trio and it could have become a sort of A.I. homage to Faster Pussycat Kill Kill . The film establishes the sexy moments extremely well, but when it comes to the dolls going psycho. There is not as much of that as I would have liked. There are some great kills in this but some of them go by too quick for me to appreciate it.
The direction is solid and a lot of the visuals are great. I just wasn’t a fan of the constant fast paced/quick cut editing style. Especially in the moments when it tried to reference features such as Spring Breakers and A Clockwork Orange.
None of those scenes shot bare any similarities to those classics except the costumes(which were great). For the homage to Stanley Kubrick’s classic. They could have easily found an electronic adapation of a public domain song that was not composed by Wendy Carlos. The music used in that sequence would have worked better in the scenes for Harmony Korine’s gem. The poster art however was spot on and it should have focused more on those instead.
I am curious to watch more with these characters and I hope in the sequels the other dolls will get more screen time and hopefully more kills. I still want to see them naked but give me a bit more violence too.
