Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person
Cast: Sara Montpetit, Felix Antione Benard, Noemie O'Farrell
Writers: Christine Doyon, Ariane Louis-Seize
Director: Ariane Louis-Seize
Sasha (Sara Montpetit) is a young vampire with a very peculiar problem. Even though she needs blood to survive she just cant kill another person in order to do it. Her frustatred parents cut off her blood bag suply and send her to live with her cousin Denise (Noemie O'Farrell) in hopes that she will gain her thirst back. Our young would be blood sucker meets Paul( Felix Antione Benard) a depressed young man who wants very much to die and the two form an odd but beneficial friendship of sorts.
With elements of Let The Right One In, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, and even Harold and Maude. Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (or HVSCSP as the kids call it) is a very fun and delightful horror comedy. The cast is great with stand out performances from everyone including Sara Montpetit as our lead. If the french ever did a remake of Beetlejuice( and I would rather see that than a sequel) Sara would be a great stand in as Lydia as she reminds me very much of Winona Ryder in that movie. The relationship between both Sasha and Paul gives the movie a lot of it's heart and humor. There is a scene when Sasha invites Paul into her room that plays out like they are both about to loose their virginity. But with different intents from both characters. I also love that even though Sasha is the odd member in her family. Everyone still loves and cares for her very much.
Being that this movie is about vampires. It makes sense that a lot of the locations are set in the dark. Sometimes I wish that the brightness in some scenes were turned up just a tad. That is my only real complaint for a movie that was paced very well. It's premise is one that I have not really seen get executed so well by everyone involved in making it. This is one I will gladly sink my teeth into again and again.
